Using sport to promote peaceful coexistence

International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

Wednesday 6 April marks International Day of Sport for Development and Peace – an opportunity to recognise the positive role sport and physical activity play in communities and in people’s lives across the globe.

As part of the celebrations Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) will be host a webinar on ‘Peace and Football’.

The event takes place at 8am UK time on Thursday 7 April with speakers including the university’s Dr Tom Carter. Tom is Reader in the School of Sport and Health Sciences and also Director of  Football 4 Peace International.

Tom said: “We know that football can be a powerful tool toward the reduction of violence and promotion of peace, reconciliation and social cohesion.

“OFC is on a journey to understanding and maximising this contribution in our region and beyond at a time when this conversation seems more important than ever.”

You can join the discussion on the OFC website.
